Intensive Peer Program (IP2)

IP2 is an outpatient program led by certified peer support specialists that takes place in one of our CARR-certified sober living homes.

If you have Medicaid, housing costs are free.

How does it work?

The Intensive Peer Program (IP2) is a structured outpatient program that blends the independence of sober living with the structure and accountability of a clinical and peer recovery plan. A major benefit of IP2 is that housing is completely free during the first 90-day phase for individuals enrolled in Medicaid.

Residents engage in:

  • One-on-one peer coaching sessions

  • Daily peer-led group sessions focused on recovery, life skills, and stability

  • Weekend outings and community engagement activities

  • Support applying to school, job training, or vocational programs

  • Help preparing for employment and budgeting for independent living

  • Simultaneous Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and clinical services.

After completing the intensive first phase (usually 90 days), residents transition into a step-down phase where they secure employment or enroll in school, begin contributing partial rent, and build toward independent living.

The power of peer support.

What makes IP2 different is that it’s peer-led. Meaning, your recovery support comes from someone who has been there and has lived your experiences. Peer support specialists at SafeSide are all certified and have lived experience with addiction, homelessness, and mental health challenges. They offer not just recovery knowledge but compassion, connection, and mentorship.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), peer support improves treatment retention, reduces relapse rates, and increases long-term success. SafeSide aligns its program with SAMHSA’s Four Dimensions of Recovery: Health, Home, Purpose, and Community. Our team follows ethical standards through COPA, NAADAC, and the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC).

Our Approach

At SafeSide Recovery, we believe in the transformative power of peer support as the foundation for long-lasting recovery. There are few more effective ways to guide individuals through addiction than with the help of someone who has lived that same experience and walked a similar path to sobriety.

Our certified recovery coaches and peer mentors have been where you are, and they know firsthand the challenges and triumphs of rebuilding a life in recovery.

They walk alongside our residents, offering guidance, empathy, and practical strategies for overcoming the hurdles that accompany sobriety.
